Dover Township Public Works Snow Removal

Winter storms can range from moderate snow for a few hours to a blizzard that may last for several days. Regardless of the severity of the storm, Dover Township wants to ensure everyone in our community is prepared and remains safe during these events.

Dover Township recognizes the importance of snow removal not only for our residents, but for anyone who travels to or through the Township.

Please help us, help you during a snow event by doing the following: Once snow accumulates three (3) inches or more and until the roadway is cleared by Dover Township’s Public Works Department or PennDOT, no vehicle, trailer, or camper may be parked along the roadway.

It is impossible for snowplows to avoid having snow placed at the bottom of driveways. Unfortunately, this is the reality of snow removal.

Keeping sidewalks safe is an important winter safety concern. This is to ensure anyone can safely walk or get around. If you live on a corner lot, be sure to clear a path to the roadway. It is possible this location is a pickup and drop off for school students. Please clear snow, sleet and ice from sidewalks in front of your property no more than twenty-four (24) hours after a storm.

The owner of the property shall be responsible for conforming to the requirements of this Section even where such property is occupied by someone other than the owner or is unoccupied.

Be sure to remove all trash and recycling cans from the roadway to avoid damages.

Keep any stormwater inlet open near or around your property. Keeping it open will prevent flooding and icing conditions on the roadway.

If you have a fire hydrant on your property, please help the Dover Township Fire Volunteer Company or any other responding Company by clearing three (3) feet in all directions. This ensures the fire hydrant is visible from the road and easily accessible to connect a fire hose. By doing so, it may not only save your life, but it may also save your neighbor’s life. Snow accumulation or the result of plowing snow, can completely cover or restrict access to fire hydrants.

To avoid any interruption in your mail service from the post office, please remove all snow from in front of your mailbox. Additionally, check that your mailbox and post are in good repair. Be sure they are behind the curb, not leaning out over the street, and your house number is not blocked or covered by snow.

Dover Township’s Public Works Crews work extremely hard to make traveling on Township roads safe for everyone. Please be patient and allow time for them to arrive in your area and effectively remove snow and ice from the streets.

Thank you,
Dover Township
