Dover Rec was the proud recipient of an Excellence in Recreation and Parks award from the Pennsylvania Recreation and Park Society (PRPS) for our Sensory Santa program. We created Sensory Santa in 2022 as a way to create a sensory friendly space for a person with a disability to meet and get their photo with Santa. We are proud to offer this program to our community! Here is the information regarding the award and some photos of past Sensory Santa events.

Dover Area Parks & Recreation created Sensory Santa to reach members of the Dover community who struggled to attend and/or participate in traditional Santa events. Sensory Santa addresses sights, smells, sounds, and the size of the crowd and provides a unique Santa and Mrs. Claus experience for people with wide-ranging disabilities. Sensory Santa addresses many sensory elements to enable more York County families to engage in holiday events.
